The police exist in virtually all countries around the world. Each country has its own police force or law enforcement agency responsible for maintaining public order, enforcing laws, and ensuring the safety and security of the population. Examples of well-known police forces include the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United Kingdom's Metropolitan Police, and France's National Police.

Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, and the police force is no exception. Part of the problem is that police officers are very badly paid in almost all African countries which practically is an open invitation by the Governments to the police to help themselves.
By and large, the personal integrity, physical and mental requirements are similar. Not identical but, similar. In some countries, the police are a branch of the armed forces and in other countries, police may be required to be members of a political party or belong to a particular religion.
