Is the police academy hard

Yes....yes it is, but it really depends which Police academy it is or how hard you make it for yourself. So for example you could come to the academy for your first day not prepared, such as being over weight, not doing what or how they tell you to show up at the academy. Or you could show up with the wrong attitude making it harder on yourself and that could result in quitting.

Police academies will have strict hours and will be on military time, and will have many hours of P.E., many hours of running, push-ups, sit-ups, etc and if your lucky maybe some throwing up. And if that wasn't hard enough you will also spend many hours in the class room reading and learning laws and other things. You will also spend many hours studying for tests off of the clock, you will usually take one or two test a week and you will usually only get a second chance to pass a test, or your automatically out of the academy. You will also be clean shaven and are expected to have a clean uniform that also looks good.

Some academies are longer than others, usually government agencies will be longer or harder and even some state police academies are longer than local city departments.

Usually local city departments and or Sheriff department academies will let you go home at the end of the day, usually at 5 o'clock or 1700 military time. And you can unwind from a long hard day, also most academies are only five days a week and weekends off. But there are some academies that are closed campus and requires you to stay on the grounds for that work week and you may leave on the weekends only after asking. These are usually state Police or Federal law enforcement academies.

I would also recommend whatever department or agency you think you might consider joining, that you go on their website and that will let you know what it could be like at there academy. Or go on a ride-a-long and you can ask questions about it, but some departments also may restrict some information about it.

So yes it is hard but that is the purpose of it, they need to make sure you can live the day-to-day life of the job and make sure you get or have physical and mental agility, honesty, integrity, concern, and dedication to serve the public.
