Prior to the year 2001, the US/Mexico border was not enforced. Mexicans and Americans could freely cross the border as they pleased because there was no border patrol.
When 9/11 occurred, the United States began to enforce their Mex/US border. All the Mexicans that had crossed the border when it wasn't being enforced automatically got illegal status.
Some immigrants came, and still come here to make a better life for themselves and their children. Anyone with a brain and heart would do anything it takes to give their children a better life. America needs to recognize that illegal immigrants are not a threat, and that Immigration laws need to be fixed.
Anyone that has gone through the immigration process, or the legalization process knows how painful, long, and nightmarish it is.
