My association and knowledge of Mr. Goings has been on a professional level and know him to be one of a few of a dying breed. In unbiased observations by more than just myself, the common denominator is his total unselfish passion for helping others, his community, deep devotion to his religious beliefs, incredible committment and love for his wife and their child, who is physically and mentally handicapped. Everywhere you see Mr. Goings, you always see him with his neatly groomed son. Once my wife and I observed Mr. Goings pushing his son in his wheelchair in the rain trying to place him in their car. We saw Mr. Goings patiently picking his son up and placing him gently in the back seat and placing the wheelchair in the trunk, while being drenched by the heavy downpour. Many people place these kind of children in homes unable to handle what I'm sure is quite a load and a 24/7 service. I'm aware Mr. Goings served his country honorably, represented Fortune 500 companies, has earned his Doctorate(Now formally, "Dr. Goings") and ran for Justice Court Judge. During his campaign, he never once engaged in mudslinging his opponent through the media, even though the same courtesy wasn't extended, Mr. Goings in true consistent form, stayed the high road. I also know for over 10 years, he has provided Christmas to over 1500 children and provided them with coats. In the summer, Mr. Goings goes in to poor areas and hands out fans to the elderly and shut-ins who can't afford or don't have air conditioning. This he does out of his own pocket and finances and doesn't ask for anything in return. Mr. Goings has been appointed by the Governor to two separate State Boards, the Workforce Development and Banking and Finance. He's served in the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He's been appointed to prestigous committees in Washington D.C. and was recently appointed to the Ronald Reagan Congressional Committee. Mr. Goings received a Medal of Valor from the Louisiana State Police and a Congressional Gold Medal Receipient. Many people in the area who know Mr. Goings and see him on a daily basis have a deep admiration and respect for him. Mr. Goings is in his fifties and certainly after any of us having lived that long, I'm certain has made some mistakes but he sure seems to rise above them, showing he has gained wisdom and knowledge, as should we all. When given the opportunity to lash out, especially in his recent campaign and would have been totally justified in doing so, he remained poised and kept his integrity but most of all, didn't embarass his family by reacting negatively. Mr. Goings once told me, he calls his mother at least once to twice a day, who does that anymore? He told me he loves Classical Music, plays, his favorite being Phantom of the Opera and enjoys the beach, namely Destin, Fl. He really likes visiting Manhattan and D.C. and it's museums. He reads quite a bit and still, it's not always about him. What an inspiration and actually makes me think at times, that I wish I were only half the person. No matter what person could ever say anything less than I've objectively stated or say anything negative, I can assure anyone, they just don't know Mr. Goings like my family and I and may be a little jealous and may need to look a little deeper into themselves. As for me, I'll continue to pray for Mr. Goings and his family and send an invitation to any others who resemble Mr. Goings, come be a part of our community and help make it better as did he.
