The Iron Maiden, The Rack, Thumb Screws
There is no thumb press that is a kind of torture. It is called thumb screw torture, and it is a type of European torture in which the victims fingers and thumbs were placed inside a vice, and crushed.
Thumb screws were used as a form of torture and punishment in slavery to discipline enslaved individuals by crushing their thumbs or extremities, causing extreme pain and permanent damage. This brutal method was employed by slave owners to assert control, instill fear, and prevent enslaved people from resisting or rebelling.
Since this is in history category I assume you are not referring to the screws which can be tightened by hand by this name. Therefore, you must be referring to the torture device that was used in medieval Europe. It basically is a small vice that a victim's thumbs were put in and the vice was tightened slowly crushing the thumb. other fingers and toes were also subject to this device .
