Well, I've heard that when people start off they make between $65,000-125,000; a lot of the time this depends on location because many top firms are only located in specific areas. Aside from the starting salary, I've heard that with a little experience it can jump drastically ($300,000+), under the right circumstances of course. Usually a postgraduate degree can help get you "up there."

It completey depends on a) the nature of his work and b) the years the attorney has been practicing. In general, an attorney working in the public sector (i.e. for a government entity or for a non profit organization) will make less than an attorney working in the private sector (your traditional business or firm). Likewise a newer attorney is going to make less than an attorney who has been practicing for a number of years. Within the public sector, the pay scale, in the year 2007, can start from the low-lows of $30,000 and increase incrementally with the experience of the attorney. Experienced prosecutors and public defenders can make well into 6 figures. Within the private sector, the pay scale, in the year 2007, can start from the high $40,000 and increases incrementally with the experience of the attorney. The starting rate depends on the state or geographical area in which an attorney practices. For example, starting salaries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York will be considerably higher than those in smaller or less economically prosperous regions. Also the size of the firm or business an attorney works for can have an impact on an attorney's salary. There is no upward limit to the amount an attorney in the private sector can make. Private sector attorneys who have been practicing for a number of years can make upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars.
