Typically a quorum is more than half of the members. By-laws often state that a quorum must be present to legally conduct business or hold a meeting. Most often a quorum will be a majority, anything over 50%, however, the organization by-laws may state some other percentage to be a quorum.
A quorum refers to the minimum number of members of governmental body that must be present for official business to take place. In the Senate and House of representative, a simply majority constitutes a quorum.
More than half of the members must be present to be a quorum.A quorum is a term that can be used to say that enough members of Congress are present to proceed with a meeting. This term can be used with any group or society.
A quorum is the smallest number of members who must be present for business to be conducted. Each house can set its own rules about absent members. The minimum number of members of an assembly or society that must be present at any of its meetings to make the proceedings of that meeting valid.
a QUORUM is defined as more than half the members present
That depends on the rules set up by the specific committee, but a common requirement is that MORE THAN HALF of the members be present.
It depends on three variables: x = total number of members y = percentage of members required to determine z: z = number more or less than y required to make a quorum. As an example, let's say we have a membership of 27. The number required to have a quorum is 3 more than 40% of the membership. So, here the quorum would be: 0.4 * 27 + 3 = 13.8, which would normally be rounded up to 14. Rounding, using either the ceiling or floor function, can also be another variable in the equation. Most quorums are simpler than this. If a quorum is 1 more than 50% of membership, then the formula is: Floor((0.5*x)+1) where x is the number of total members.

The quorum for a meeting of the Board of directors of a company shall be one-third of its total strength (any fraction contained in that one-third being rounded off as one), or two directors, whichever is higher. Provided that where at any time the number of interested directors exceeds or is equal to two-thirds of the total strength, the number of the remaining directors, that is to say, the number of the directors who are not interested, present at the meeting being not less than 2 shall be the quorum during such time. Interested director means any director whose presence cannot, by reason of his being interested in some manner in the subject matter of discussion be counted for the purpose of forming a quorum at a meeting of the Board, at the time of the discussion or vote on any matter.
In the United States Congress, there must be a minimum number of members on the floor to conduct bussiness. This number is reffered to as a quorum. The U.S. Congress has set it's quorum at a simple majority, more than one half. So, for instance, in the Senate (which has 100 members) 51 members must be present, while in the House of Representatives, (which has 435 members) 218 members must be on the floor.
