While attempted suicide is not technically against the law in Tennessee, there are laws in place regarding attempted suicide. It is not a crime, therefore, it isn't something which a person could go to jail for. However, there are laws in place in which the person could be committed to a mental institution for a psychological evaluation and possible treatment if they are still deemed to be a danger to themselves or to someone else.

Additional Info To Add:

Sorry to disagree, but you would be incorrect. Yes, suicide IS illegal. It may not be country wide, but I know in my state, it is. It's not that they'd arrest you for it. They use that law to enable law enforcement to force you into treatment, basically.

Here, in Georgia, if you attempt to commit suicide, you'll be placed in a standard hospital initially to treat you for whatever wounds you have inflicted or to treat you for any overdose you may have attempted. During that time, you are usually guarded by a police officer (sometimes hospital guard) under what they term a "10-13". Once you're released officially from the hospital or the service you're under, you'll either stay in that hospital under 72 hour observation or be transferred to a mental-health facility to be observed for 72 hours.

The info above is also a core reason to why assisted suicide is illegal. Officials feel that the choice of suicide is usually one that the person will eventually come out of, and in truth, you usually do. The only situation I can really think of where the person is just hard-set in the thought of suicide is in the case of those with a diagnosis of some terminal condition. They fear the person assisting is doing so out of pressure, usually they aren't trained medical/mental-health personnel.

When it comes down to it, suicide isn't the answer and hurts people you love much more than you being in their life. I know it may not seem like it at the time. You may believe with every ounce of your soul that your family/friends/spouse/children/whomever would be better off without you, but it's not the solution. It took me multiple suicide attempts, and two car accidents that should have killed me before it sank in. That knowledge is reinforced every time my children and I discuss past issues I've gone through and/or put them through.

Anyway, I hope the info helps! Good luck!

Suicide is not illegal. Assisting suicide is illegal, and it may not be a qualifying cause of death as far as your insurance is concerned, but it is not illegal.

Is suicide or attempted suicide against the law in Washington?

Suicide is not against the law, as there can be no human punishment for someone who has successfully committed it. Attempted suicide will not bring criminal charges against you, but you will most likely be taken in for psychological evaluation whether you want to be or not, and can be held until they feel you are no longer a threat to yourself or anyone else.....which could be days, weeks, months and sometimes years.

Is suicide or attempted suicide against the law in Michigan?

It isn't against the law, no... laws against suicide are rare, because it is impossible to enforce a punishment for someone that is dead. However, it does invalidate almost all insurance policies, making it a significant financial burden to whoever has to bear the cost of clean up and burial. Suicide is a poor choice for a lot of reasons, many of which have to do with the suffering it causes others, but it is also sacrificing hope and potential. Despair is temporary. Suicide is not. Life gets better, and suicide is, as they say, a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Actually, really not a solution at all. Just another escape. It's harder to solve the problem that is motivating the suicide, but solving the problem is always a better choice, and more than worth it, even if it takes a lot of time, suffering, or embarrassment. Life is worth the sacrifice.
