∙ 13y agoThis question has multiple answers depending on the type of gun, the location of the gun, and your status as a PERSON.
The Governments of some States do not require the registration of any gun, unless it is a certain type/class of weapon. Machine Guns for example are required by the Federal Government to be registered with the BATF, while some Cities have local rules that require you to register any hand guns.
By Federal Rules, if you are a convicted Felon, you do not have the right to be in possession of, or near guns of many different types whether they are registered or not..
So depending on the varying factors of the given guns, personal/legal situations, and the various locations/regulations... the answer is that it may or may not be illegal to possess an unregistered gun.
Check with the Local County Sherriff/City Police in the area and they will be able to tell you what is required to comply with the rules of the their County or what is required while within the City Limits for that particular area.

Nope, it's illegal.
Depends on the law where YOU are. In MOST of the US, there is no requirement or procedure to register a gun- popular belief notwithstanding.
Depends on why the gun is illegal, If you are a person that has been convicted of a felony (a serious crime) then possession of a gun is punished by 5 years in a Federal prison. No probation, no parole, no concurrent sentence- and a fine of up to $10,000. Make that an unregistered sawed off shotgun, or an unregistered machine gun, 10 years in a Federal prison.
I know of no gun registeration in Maryland. No such thing as a unregistered gun.
