That is the usual scenario in which it is applied, however, there are laws on the statute books that call for the death penalty in certain other crimes as well.
In those states which still have the death penalty it is death. In those states which no longer have the death penalty it is life imprisonment.
Those that commit treason, rape and murder.
There were two individuals who were the last people to get the death penalty in Canada. Those two individuals were Arthur Lucas and Robert Turpin. Both were on death row for murder charges.
it has to be a capital crime. murder/kidnapping ,murder/rape, murder/robbery. those are capital murder issues and can get the death penaly oh and murder as means of gaining monies, eg insurance. multiple murders aswell.
In the US jurisdictions which still have the death penalty, you are not "guaranteed" the death penalty. There are several 'capital crimes' cited among those that migh qualify BUT,currently usually only murder (the more heinous or coldblooded it is) will be the one act that would set in motion such a recommendation.
It depends on the candidate. There is no set liberal or conservative view on the death penalty. There are many liberals who support the death penalty and those who are against it. There are many conservatives who support the death penalty and there are those who oppose it.
That would be those who are in favour of using the death penalty for punishment of severe crimes.
talk about how it might be fair or unfair according to the crime. ex. some people say an eye for an eye but others just get a couple years and rehab. wats the deal? murder is murder.... give your own opinion and insight about what you think about a death penalty and if you agree with it or something along those lines.
Including those states with moratoriums, how many states currently have the death penalty?
In those places that have a death penalty, it is legal because it is established by the appropriate legislature and upheld by the appropriate courts.
Some people believe that the death penalty should be stopped. This is a give or take issue. An issue with having the death penalty, is being killed when you haven't actually done the crime, which in this day and age, dosen't happen a lot, but when it does is trauma and a name for that person. The death penalty would be good, for people that have done extreme crimes, such as murder, rapings and other misfits of judgements, but also for those who have been wrongly accused this could be a problem.
Proponents of the Death Penalty will argue that it is beneficial for at least two reasons. The first is that it prevents any further crimes from being committed by the alleged perpetrator. The second is that it serves as a strong deterrent to those considering indulging in violent (or other serious) crimes: the potential penalty of death will lead many such persons to choose not to commit offenses.
