If the relative won the suit, there is no settlement. If there is a judgment, the estate can collect on the judgment. If there is a settlement, the parties agreed not to move forward with the suit.
You can check with the clerk of court where the suit was litigated to find out how the suit was resolved.

Yes there is, try to talk to the lawyer. Try to find out if there is some way where the could sort things out without a lawsuit. As well as see if there is a program where you could get paid extra due to the lawsuit.

No one can see the will while it is in the possession of the person who has it until it is filed for probate. Once it is filed it becomes a public record and you can request the file at the probate court and read the will.
