A suspended execution of sentence is when the judge actually renders a sentence to the defendant, but passes the execution of the sentence on defendant unless they commit another offense. The court will then have the right to impose the original sentence upon the defendant. A suspended imposition of sentence is when the judge does not enter a sentence on defendant and has the right to execute a sentence upon the defendant should they commit another offense.
"Please don't penalize me for not knowing the rules." Which means: "Please don't [impose a penalty upon] me for not knowing the rules." The seriousness of the results of a crime often determines the severity of the punishment when the judge is deciding just how to most effectively penalize the defendant in the American criminal court system.
At sentencing, the verdict (decision of the judge or jury) is announced and you can either immediately be taken away to begin your sentence (or pay your fine), or given a certain amount of time to get your affairs in order before you report to jail/prison.
A judge exercises wide discretionary powers in sentencing cases that come before him, except (in the US) where the legislatures have written mandatory sentences into the statute law. The judge may NOT change these mandatory minimums.

It entirely depends upon the nature of the case, and varies according to each individual trial- there is no statutory length for a manslaughter conviction in the UK. Sentence length depends entirely upon any mitigating circumstances there may be, i.e. if the killer was acting in self-defence but did not mean to go so far as to actually KILL the victim, if the defendant is not of entirely sound mind, and so on. If the killing was accidental and the defendant shows remorse for his or her actions, they MAY escape a prison sentence altogether- in such cases, it depends upon the nature of the presiding judge.
None. She was not the judge (although she is called a "judge" by the Duke, who is the real judge) and did not have the power to sentence Shylock. She did, however, advise the court that in her view Shylock fell under a statute which imposed a sentence of death or such lesser sentence as the court might see fit on an "alien" who made an attempt on the life of a citizen of Venice.

I am unaware of any such law. A judge is free to sentence immediately upon the pronouncement of the verdict or he may order a pre-sentencing report to assist him in making a decision, and delay the sentencing hearing until the report is prepared and submitted to him.
The commitment issued to the Sheriff is basically the sheet of paper that is handed to him or his department, which officially declares the sentence for the defendant. On probation cases, the defendant is given this paper to get into the probation office upon reporting for the first time. This will tell the probation office the length of probation the defendant has been sentenced.
The verdict and the sentence.
"What you allude to is based solely upon supposition, you errant detective, you!", exclaimed the defendant. If the detective wishes to allude to gossip, please disallow his/her testimony.
