Depends on where you are- law varies state to state, and country to country. To purchase a gun from a dealer in the US, you must be 18 for a rifle or shotgun, and 21 for handguns, machineguns, etc. (Federal law- Title 18, US Code, Section 922- applies to ALL states) Some (not all) states require you to have a Firearm Owners ID, or a permit to purchase. Some also require you to have a permit to possess, and 47 states require a license to carry a gun concealed on your person. Other countries (and we DO get questions from several countries) have different laws. Some require permits and licenses, some simply do not permit private ownership of firearms, or restrict it severely.
