Why would people fake being Jack the Ripper?
Whenever a crime is committed, there are people who claim they did it, even though they didn't. Nobody really understands why these people confess to things they didn't do, but it's a recognized part of police work. In the case of Jack the Ripper, some of them might have wanted to be famous or dangerous.

He literally ripped into his victims, cutting, stabbing and slashing in a near frenzy that lacked all evidence of precision. It would not have been difficult for the killer to have laid hands on a book of anatomy which could have given him a general idea of the locations of internal organs.
