World War II took place around the world. It was fought on every continent and most every country in the World was affected except Antarctica. Berlin, as the capital of Germany was basically destroyed during the War but so were many other cities and Millions of people were killed as soldiers and civilians. So no, it did not take place just in Berlin.
A large part of the Cold War staring contest took place in Berlin, which was then divided, although the city was located entirely within Communist East Germany. Suggest you search "Berlin Airlift" and "Berlin Wall" for further info on Berlin's role in the Cold War.
In World War 2 there was no division of Berlin. In the Cold War, the 'free' part was West Berlin.
