∙ 14y agoUnfortunately, no. Unemployment is for workers who lost their jobs while working for someone else. As you owned your own business, you were the "master of your fate", as it were, subject to both gains and losses due to your decisions.

∙ 14y agoAs a self-contractor, you pay yourself by setting aside a portion of your earnings from each project or job to cover your personal income. You can do this by transferring funds from your business account to your personal account regularly, or by giving yourself a regular "paycheck" as if you were an employee of your own business. It's important to keep track of your income and expenses for tax purposes.
Depends on what the business is worth, how much you want to put back into the business to grow. Probally more than any other employee. So you see it is not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. There there are a lot of variables to be considered. ------------- If after all the expenses have been paid, the taxes, the employees payroll, healthcare, the electric bill, etc etc... You can look at the checking account and see if you have enough to write yourself a paycheck. If you do good for you, if not no paycheck for you this week... You can pay yourself whatever you wish, as long as other expenses are paid first. Most small businesses find that their payroll checks sometimes come sporadically depending on the business. If the business is successful your paycheck should not be so much as to bankrupt the company. If you need a bank loan the bank will look as the reasonableness of your paycheck.

It refers to earning just enough in a day to feed yourself that day, similar to living paycheck to paycheck. Being unable to save up anything for the future.

No, you cannot VOLUNTARILY make yourself unemployed and then claim unemployment compensation because of it.
