Businesses need people-and the better the people, the better the business. The efficiency of human interaction is integral to the success of small and large businesses alike, and the study of Human Resources Management aims to illuminate the process of selecting and managing the people who make businesses work. For students pursuing this field, their studies will comprise both behavioral sciences and organizational management. In other words, they'll learn why people act the way they do, and how to best utilize natural human behavior. Topics of particular interest in the study of Human Resources Management are compensation and motivation (and the interaction between the two); how to improve human resources in the global marketplace; and how to help businesses respond well to change. Graduate students learn the fundamentals of creating an efficient, positive work environment, and how to use that work environment to its fullest capacity. Contract negotiation, dispute settlement, and leadership training are all part of the Human Resources realm. Graduate studies will also touch on the larger picture, including labor economics and organizational theory. Students will learn how Human Resources Management affects business on a grand scale, and how small changes and improvements can have large results. Human Resources Management is a growing field, made more important now by the growth of international business, the shaky economy, and tough competition. Good employees and good management are more important now than ever.

If HR asks where you want your job location, be sure to state a location in which they have an opening. Otherwise you may go on a waiting list for employment.
