depends on the jurisdiction hiring................. todays law enforcement field liens toward a minium of an associate degree. A full degree inproves ones chances. Can't say any specific degree would be better. However, a degree in law and justice, police science or law enforcement tends to be the 'preferred' degree. I believe many small town areas do not have any degree requirements do to the cost of colleges and lack of finicial funding in such small towns. However, I highly recomend an effort to secure a degree. Also, another way of entering law enforcement is to secure a part-time police position, thereby obtaining much on the job training for a full time position as well as improving your resume.............
Degree requirements vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In many of the larger, more urban areas, Police Department will require 30 hours or course work, or an associates degree (Area of study is unimportant). Unfortunately, many smaller or more rural areas still only require that you have completed your high school or equivalent. The best way to find out is to check the hiring requirements of the particular jurisdiction.
