An employee, usually of long standing, who is the only or of one of few remaining employees after a reorganization. This reorganization would typically have replaced the legacy employee's previous management reporting hierarchy. Legacy employees are almost viewed with disdain by the new regime and often targeted for termination or layoff. More frequently they are "managed out" rather than dismissed outright The term is usually used in an unfavorable context.
