No, it's not.
Socket A.
The microprocessor is installed into the CPU socket on the motherboard. A CPU socket can only fit a certain range of microprocessors.
The CPU, or Processor is found in the CPU socket on a motherboard.
p4 processor is used in socket pga478 motherboard.
A CPU socket is a mechanical connection. Its main function is to serve as a connection that holds the CPU and allows it to communicate with the motherboard.
socket on motherboard
The CPU is not part of the motherboard but it is placed on the motherboard. The CPU is squared and about a quarter inch square in size. It is placed in the CPU socket. A heatsink/fan is placed on top of the CPU to keep the CPU cool which makes it pretty hard to see because the heatsink/fan covers it when it is in a working computer.
Each motherboard possesses certain socket type, for instance, from Intel LGA 771, LGA 775, Socket 478, 604, Socket M and P, for AMD Socket 754, 939, 940, AM2, AM2+, Socket F and socket S1. Thus, when you are going to buy a motherboard you have to have or buy a CPU with the same type of socket. A CPU with one type of socket will not fit another type of socket!
Simply open the motherboard CPU socket and place the CPU carefully into the CPU socker then close the brackets that's all good luck :)
