I am an experienced babysitter, and when you babysit there are TONS of things to do!

It depends on how old the children are for infants to 3 year olds the most you can do is play music and dance with the child, read books, make snacks, watch movies, play with dolls or cars (make sure any toy you play with is soft and wouldn't hurt the infant of child), or you can also roll a ball back and forth!

For 4-7 year olds they are more about talking and walking and running!! so you would need to be on your toes with this age range. What you could do is...Play with toys, go outside, read books, watch movies, swim is a small pool (don't forget sunscreen!), and you could ask the child too! See what they love to do in their spare time!

8-10 year olds (with is as high as Igo in age when i babysit), are a different story. For them you need to warm up to them. They may not be as playful then the younger kids! Sometimes they just like to go off and play by themselves, but if they do this you have to check back on them regularly so the stay out of trouble, as well as asking if they would mind if you could play too!

Changing diapers is considered in many stereotypes as the worst job any babysitter can deal with. But often children as old as 5 still expect OTHER people to wipe for them... that is why babysitters get as much as several operators, interns, etc.

If you consider cooking a chore then yeah... you could possibly (depending on the parents) have to do that as well. Cleaning is a typical must because children... let's face it, are messy creatures and the parents aren't paying you anything to ignore the child AND its messy habits. But all in all it's something a teen 14 or older should be able to handle, and something they possibly should do just for the "experience". Frankly at a typical price of $12/hr or less the job is a worthwhile weekend occupation and even greater an opportunity for people who are home schooled only twice a week as they have more of a time range to take the job.

It depends on the age of the children. If they are smaller children, you may have to change their diaper, give them a bottle or pacifier. Other duties of a babysitter include fixing food for the kids and most importantly making sure they are safe.

  • Do not text friends or invite other people over. You're not there to party, you're there to take care of other peoples' kids.
  • Stay safe
  • Take toys, games, and movies and PLAY WITH KIDS. (please see Related Links below)
  • Don't answer the phone or door if you do not know the number.
