There's a glitch that can get you lots of money. Create a new game, then make your character and start off by going to the "Hair & Happiness" store. Buy the cheapest hair you see, and go back to look at your book of objects you have bought (image of your character in bottom left corner), then press the button on your object that has money on it. It will ask you if you want to sell it to the second hand shop, press "OK", then, click on the bags in the bottom left corner to return back to the shopping centres, and press the image of your character again. You should have another $10. Continue to do this for as long as you want to keep receiving money!
