Simply put, no. Some gas stoves use an electrical system for ignition. Others have the typical pilot light that needs a real flame to manualy light it.

You shouldn't ever have to clean a pilot light. If it won't stay lit, then you need to fit a new thermocouple.

Is a gas stove dangerous when pilot light is removed?

A gas stove can be dangerous without a pilot light as it can allow gas to build up in the kitchen, which can lead to a potential explosion if ignited. It is important to exercise caution and immediately contact a professional to relight the pilot light.

Describ the correct way to light a stove?

gas and propane stoves have pilot lights, these must be lit by depressing a pilot control knob, the stoves will then light when the control knobs are turned to open/ on position

If I turn the gas on but the pilot light isn't on does the gas keep running?

On a stove it will. On a modern, code-compliant water heater, space heater or furnace it will not, because these modern appliances have electric valves that will not open if the pilot flame goes out. Once the pilot is out, the only way to get gas to flow is to push the pilot button in on the gas valve and relight the pilot flame according to the instructions. You can check for gas leaking from the pilot burner or main burner by smelling for the scent of gas, as natural gas and LPG (propane) have an odorant added to allow you to detect their presence. (Do NOT use a flame or spark to test for the presence of gas!)

Why would one side of your kitchen stove not work?

If it's a gas stove, check the pilot light. Lift the stovetop and see if there's a little gas flame burning near or between the burners on the side that's not working. You should be able to see a pilot light burning on the side that is working. You can relight the pilot light with a match. If it's an electric stove, check the circuit breakers. Electric ranges operate on 220 volts, mostly for the benefit of the oven. But to get that 220, two 110's are strapped together electrically. And it's with two circuit breakers. The burners are hooked up with half of them across half the buss and the other half across the other half. One half your buss could be down. Does your oven work at full strength? It doesn't cost anything to find the circuit breaker to your range (either a pair of breakers side by side or a big double one) and cycle it. Turn it off and turn it back on again and see if anything changes. You don't have to be an electrician to do that.

How do you light an O'Keefe and Merritt stove?

You should be able to turn the knob and it should light. If it doesn't and it's very old, and you can hear gas flowing, you need to light it with a match when you turn the knob. If it's newer, then the pilot is probably out. You can light it by pushing the red safety button (usually in the left side storage compartment if it's a one-oven stove or under the top of the stove if two ovens) and putting a match to the pilot at the back top of the broiler for the oven and under the middle of the griddle for the burners. You may have to hold the button in for several seconds before it will stay lit.

How do you light a pilot light?

100% of the time the instructions are located close to the device, if not the users manual will help. You should follow the particular steps for your gas fireplace, grill, hot water heater, furnace, or stove. There are differences.

Purpose of flash tubes on gas cooker?

Flash tubes distribute the gas from the main burner to the ignition source (pilot light or igniter) to ensure proper and efficient ignition of the gas. They contribute to the safe and reliable operation of the gas cooker by directing the gas flow in a controlled manner for ignition.
