Some sweat bee's can because once my friend was swimming and there was one on her head and she went under the water and when she came back up it was still alive and it stung her because the sweat bee can tell when you are scared.
Bees are scared of the water because they might drowned if they get too close. They r not going to take any chances.

if you have been to Ireland it is a common phrase (i use it) to express shock. also they were probably saying bee-jay-zus. eg. holy bejesus you scared the life out of me
