Tinting or dyeing flowers can be done with food coloring and a little something called "capillary action." Capillary action, also known as "wicking" is what moves the water from the roots up into the stems and leaves
The best flowers to dye are white ones. White roses, white daisies, and white carnations tend to be the most suitable species for dyeing.
You will also need a pruning scissors (or sharp paring knife), a quart jar filled filled with water, a long handled spoon or chopstick, and a four-pack of vegetable dye. These dyes are available in the baking section of your local supermarket.
1. Add a few drops of food coloring to the quart jar. Mix using the spoon or chopsticks.
2. Prune (or trim with a knife) the flower stems at an angle.
3. Place the flowers in the jar, taking care that the bottom of the stems are submersed.
4. Let the flowers remain in the jar overnight. By the follow day, your fresh cut flowers petals will have absorbed enough of the food coloring to have changed colors.
