They don't spit.
The praying mantis cannot travel very far because their body weight does not allow them to fly far. The female almost never flies because the eggs she almost always carries, weigh her down a great deal.
No, praying mantises do not eat frogs, they eat insects. Frogs are far too large for a praying mantis to eat them.
Praying Mantis. By far the most exciting insect preditor. Definately has wow factor.
No, but meditating beetles do. They eat their mates as well! Actually I live in south central Montana and just found a praying mantis in my yard this past weekend Aug-2012. I wonder if its the heat that brought them this far north??
Praying mantises, as far as I know, are not full of poison. Although they secrete a chemical in their jaws to paralyze prey, their body consists of an exoskeleton and normal internal body parts such as organs and muscles.
The praying mantis is actually not religious. It holds out its claws in front of it in a position that somewhat resembles hands folded in prayer, but it does so because this is a useful position from which to strike at insects that it will eat. It is purely coincidental that this position suggests prayer to the human viewer.
yes they make a cricket noise in verry few species (the cricket noise), although some can make a hissing noise whilst performing the threat display by squeezing air out of small holes in the abdomen. I once heard this given off by a european mantis in France when i accidentally startled it.
No. Owls do have very flexible necks though, which lets them turn their heads quite far sideways.
Best on the market. The Praying Mantis mitt is a patented catchers mitt that has stress wedge technology to protect the thumb from ball impact. Far and away best catchers mitt on market...
Before striking, the mantis will sway or rock back and forth. Scientists disagree about why. Some believe it is mimicking the movement of leaves in the wind. Others think that swaying helps the mantis focus its eyesight.
