There are several species of caterpillars that can be found in Wyoming. These include banded woolly bear caterpillar and the white lined sphinx caterpillar.
White-lined sphinx caterpillars form their cocoons in underground burrows and remain there for two to three weeks before they emerge.
The accepted scientific name is Hyles lineata.
well I just moved to Florida and they tell me they sting. Does it have puffy white pillow type things on it. Everyone says they sting
It is believed to turn into a White Lined Sphinx Moth, another name for it is a Hawkmoth.
That sounds like a cinnabar moth caterpillar. They are toxic and can deliver quite a sting and are quite aggressive towards each other.

Uh no moths are a different type of insect. They include... Luna moths, White lined sphinx, the proud sphinx, and many more so yeah butterfly's and moths are different types of animals. :P
It can be a Monarch caterpillar or a Northern Florida caterpillar.
Luna Moths do not eat, because they do not have a mouth.
