Samuel Sidney Winfrey 1907-2006 Wrote and named the United Nations. I have all the originals including letter to Senator John Connley Texas,answer from Senator Connley dated 1937. Envelope and signed letter acknowledging the name The United Nations and detailing how it should be set up. The original hand written letter details and is pretty much how it was originally. Senator Connley took credit for the United Nations later in 1943.
The current organisation called The United Nations grew from a secret meeting between Winston Churchill and the American president Franklin Roosevelt onboard the warship 'Prince of Wales' off of the coast of Newfoundland in August 1941. The USA hadn't yet entered the second world war. At this meeting the two leaders developed the Atlantic Charter, to achieve the aims of the charter the United Nations was proposed.
After the USA entered the war in December 1941 the term United Nations was officially adopted as the collective name for the nations opposing the German lead Axis powers. Twenty six countries signed the United Nations Declaration in January 1942, including the so called Big Four; UK, USA, USSR, and China(pre-communist).
