The Warsaw Pact was the largest of several alliances of Communist countries.
In response to NATO, The Soviet Union eventually went on to form what was known as the Warsaw Pact. This was an agreement within Soviet Countries that if someone were to attack one of them within the Pact, it would be considered an attack on ALL of them.

The Warsaw Pact no longer exists. It was an alliance of the Eastern Bloc countries, established in 1955 by the Soviet Union as a counterpart to NATO.
The soviets used the Warsaw Pact to improve appearance's so that it would appear decisions were being made by more then one country, that there was cohesiveness among Eastern European countries that the Soviets had legitimate reasons for their presence in those countries.
