California Medical Association in 1939
The organization Carefirst BCBS is an American health insurance company that was founded in 1929 in Michigan, USA. BCBS stands for Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Blue Cross, now known as Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, uses the blueshield logo because when the company was originally started in 1929, it was a separate organization from the Blue Shield Organization, which was started 10 years later in 1939. It wouldn't be until 1982 that the two companies would merge.
The Blue Shield Association is a national organization which promotes itself and its member companies through its trademark and networking skills. The Blue Cross offers insurances along with its member corporations, within the domain of healthcare.
Its alot involve in it... i know the warrior on the top of the shield has something to do with their greek god Apollo? The meaning of the shield is reserved for members of the organization. If you are a member, then you would already know.
A shield is essentially a "daughterboard" of a PCB that has pins to match the female pin headers on a standard format Arduino board. You build your circuits/connections of sensors (switches, light, sound, temperature sensors, etc.) and outputs (LED's, displays, etc.) on a shield as an efficient way to mate the inputs/output connections to an Arduino board. A shield is not required but is highly advised as a way to insure solid connections and organization of connections. For more information see:

Generally, a company or organization's policy against discrimination, especially if embodied in employee handbooks or rules, can act as a shield in the event that it gets sued for discrimination. The organization can minimize it's liability in a lawsuit by proving that it has policies and a grievance machinery that promptly and adequately addresses any employee's complaints or reports of discrimination and is therefore, not negligent.
The Blue Cross organization deals with providing hospital coverage to its patients, while Blue Shield deals with covering physician services. Many people lump the two together as one group, as many people covered by one is usually covered by the other as well.
