Yes this occurred after WW2. It was originally the League of Nations, suggested by President Woodrow Wilson and constructed after WW1. But the L of N was weak and didn't even have the U.S. as a member. So after WW2 they re-made it, with the U.S. this time, to be stronger and more effective.
