Henry VIII divorced Queen Catherine of Aragon because Catherine had failed to give Henry a son and heir, and Catherine was older than Henry so she was in her 40's and unable to give birth any longer. So Henry divorced Catherine, as he was also falling for Anne Boleyn (He was married to Anne even while he was still married to Catherine, but Catherine did not know this).
