King George was the second of the five children of Victoria's heir, The Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra of Denmark. Ironically, George was not the first in line to succeed the throne rather his brother, Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale. When Albert Victor passed away from Typhoid Fever in 1894 his place in succession passed to George, then the Duke of York along with his Duchess; May of Teck who became Queen Mary, the present monarchs Grandmother.
