Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon were first betrothed almost immediately after her first husband, Arthur Tudor (who was also Henry VIII's older brother), died on 2 April, 1502. The betrothal was dissolved in 1505 by his father, Henry VII, but after Henry VII died in 1509, Henry VIII married her.
