Anne Boleyn (c1501-1507 - 1536) the 2nd wife of Henry VIII (1491 - 1457) and mother of Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603), was beheaded at the Tower of London, on 19 May 1536, going bravely to her death (even joking the night before about how slim her neck was) and executed by an expert French swordsman who Henry had ordered, to give her a quick and more merciful execution. Anne's remains were put in an arrow chest and buried in the church of St. Peter ad Vincula, at the Tower. Her grave was originally unmarked, but during Victorian renovations her remains were identified and there is now a marker over her resting place.
