In the Scandinavian countries the Lutheran church is also Episcopal- they have Bishops as an ecclesiastical rank. Spain is of course, Roman Catholic as is the Principality of Monaco. Italy went republican in l946 ( By a Popular Election) and Portugal went Republican in l9l0 following an internal revolution- King and Crown prince assasinated in cold blood! so it goes.
