There is an inscription on a stone next to his statue. It says, 'Cardinal Wolsey, Chancellor to Henry VIII. Died at Leicester Abbey, 1530. Buried in Abbey grounds. The statue was donated to the City by Wolsey the International knitwear firm.'
On the edge of the stone it says, ' Presented by the guild of the City of Leicester'.
