There are 7 guards regiments that provide military security for the Queen and perform ceremonial as well as their normal military duties. There are 2 mounted regiments, The Life Guards and Blues & Royals, known collectively as the Household Cavalry or Horseguards, and 5 footguards regiments who take part in the famous ceremonies of Trooping the Colour and "Changing the Guard" . These are the Irish Guards, Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, Grenadier Guards and Coldstream Guards.However the Queen has also a body guard of close protection officers provided by a special division of the Metropolitan police and has a special police escort when travelling.
