The Country practically shut down in mourning. There was a one year interval between Victoria"s demise and the coronation of Edward Vii, the merry monarch of the cigar stores! This affected coins and stamps- the new Edwardian issues not coming out until l902. Of some interest historically Victoria"s funeral arrangements in part ( as she died on the Isle of Wight) were coordinated by Wireless Telegraph from the Mainland. This is somewhat different from the Florist"s Telegraph delivery ( Mercury helmet guy) still active.Almost certainly this was the first Radio-dispatched funeral. Victoria was eventually interred in the Frogmore Mausoleum in the Windsor castle home parks. She is NOT buried in Westminster abbey- though memorial services were certainly held there.

Queen Victoria was born in 1819, she would have been between the ages of 1 and 16 between 1820 and 1836. During this time period she was in contact with her uncle Leopold, King of the Belgians, about the possibility of marriage between herself and Albert.
