When the power goes off unexpectedly, stay calm and check if the outage is affecting your area or just your home. Use a flashlight for light and unplug sensitive electronics to prevent damage from power surges. Keep perishable food cold by keeping the refrigerator and freezer closed. Contact your utility company to report the outage and get updates on when power will be restored.
This is mostly due to the micro processor within the main power supply, the major cause for this is that the processor has had a power spike or brown out, the latter being the key culprit. The TV would have suffed a dramatic loss in power then the power is restored and often blows the micro processor.
The only way your electronics will work if you turn off the circuit breaker to the surge strip is if they are able to run on battery power. If the surge strip is connected to a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) as many commercial offices are, the electronics will stay operable until the circuit breaker is reset or turned back on if purposely turned off.
