The chameleons are a group of laterally compressed lizards with prehensile tails. There are over 150 species worldwide, and they are part of the family Chamaeleonidae, but there is no one specific scientific name beyond that. The Chamaeleonidae are arranged into two subfamilies, Chamaeleoninae and Brookesiina (dwarfs). These two groups are further subdivided into about 9 more subgroups, and then further divided into the afformentioned 150+ species.
