DOWN AND DIRTY: For an end or corner joint, cut each intercepting piece at a 45. For T joints, cut the top of the post with two opposing 22.5s to give you a full 45 and cut your top rail with a corresponding 45 to the longitudinal centerline. Peen pieces into place if necessary.

Saddle markers are available at most oilfield supply or welding supply stores. They are available for all common pipe sizes... Simply clamp it on the pipe and mark your cut. No peening necessary.

What are Pipe joins?

A pipe joint is a key component to any successful plumbing system. Pipe joints means the connection at the ends of pipes that ensures tight sealing and strength. In some cases, pipe joints must also provide for rapid assembly and dis-assembly or a change in the direction of the line of pipe. The most common types used for general-purpose metal pipes are welded, flanged, threaded, and bell-and-spigot joints. alliedallcityinc.com

Why is a flange called a flange?

A flange is defined as a plate type device, normally round, that is attached to the end of a pipe, fitting, valve or other object to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of a piping system. For many years the only practical method of joining steel pipe had been by connecting threaded pipe ends with couplings. Improvements in the welding of carbon steel reduced labor costs and provided a completely sealed and much stronger joint. In most present day piping systems, threaded joints are usually limited to pipe sizes 2" and smaller. Larger pipe (3" and larger) is normally joined by butt-welding of continuous pipe and fittings or by flanges at joints that may require dismantling. Flanges (3" and larger) are also the default standard for connecting to most equipment connections and valves. GP

What are forged fittings?

Forged fittings use hubs or ends for fillet welding to pipe. They are used for smaller pipes or one that will have high pressures passing through.
