∙ 18y agoSounds like the main pipe is clogged. That's the big drain pipe that all three (toilet, shower, sink) are hooked too. When you plunge the tiolet it pushes back up the shower and sink instead of going down the clogged main pipe. The main pipe might need to be roto-rootered out. You could try some super heavy duty, pour in drain cleaner first. It might work.

Check you vent stack connection inside the house. Gurgling may have been caused by a clogged vent stack not equalizing the pressure. Now that gurgling has stopped it is getting air. Start your checking there. ----HYPOTESIS The shower drain in a spare bath gurgled when the toliet flushed or the sink water drained When the shower was used it leaked to the ceiling below. Now it does not gurgle -How do we find the leak?
Installing a steam shower in the basement is not a good idea. The steam shower should be installed in the nbathroom of your home.
The steam from the shower acts as a decongestant which helps clear your sinuses out. Taking a hot shower is often recommended by the doctor when your sinuses or airways become clogged.

Sounds like a clogged vent. Let's assume you're somewhere upstairs toward the upper floors. Someone flushes below you, a vacuum is created in the pipe above, pulling your shower drain trap dry (the gurgling sound). NOw you've got a trap with no water in it, allowing the sewer gas to escape through the drain (the stench). Tell them they need to clean out or unblock the vent stack on the roof.
It might be clogged with calcium or rust.
Just take a shower.
