26.2 miles. Every marathon is that long.
It is not known. The Romans must have built thousands of bridges because the empire was massive, it covered many mountain areas and it was crossed by many rivers. The bridges were built by the Romans, not the Roman Empire.

The New York City marathon is the same distance as any other marathon: 42.195 km, or 26.21876 miles. That's 138,435.0528 feet (one hundred thirty-eight thousand, four hundred and thirty-five feet, and some change).
Just one: The George Washington Bridge. New Jersey is also connected to New York City via the Bayonne and Verrazano Bridges. The Bayonne Bridge connects New Jersey to Staten Island, and the Verrazano connects Staten Island to Brooklyn. But this technically does not count, since you asked, "How many bridges connect Manhattan to New Jersey?" not, "How many bridges connect New York City to New Jersey?" Also, the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels connect Manhattan to New Jersey. But, obviously, tunnels aren't the same as bridges.
Bodies of water would either be crossed on ferryboats or if shallow enough by fording them (i.e. wading across). In the case of crossing roads and railroad tracks everything would be at level crossings, where both crossed at a ground level intersection.Without bridges there would also be no aqueducts to carry water, so this would be done with surface canals (which would have to be crossed by ferryboats). There are many situations where these would be very dangerous.
Only one! Runners cross Tower Bridge just before the halfway point. They do, however, run past eight other bridges including London Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge.
One, the 1974 New York City Marathon, with a time of 3:07. (She finished second in the 1975 Boston Marathon with a PR time of 2:51.)
There are 26 miles in a marathon.
