The size of the wheels are just about always imprinted on the tire sidewall, so start by looking them over. Then you can measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube for one sizing dimension, and from the center of the seat tube to the center of the head tube for another. Keep in mind that the latter one will give very different results depending which frame design it is.
Most of the time, the tire will have the size on it. If not, you can look the size up online or have your local bike shop check the wheel size.

I have boulevard M50, I think the oil check maybe the same as your 40. There is a about the size of a "quarter .. 25 cent" window below the seat on left had side of bike (sitting on bike) that shows oil level. You have to have the bike level for reading to be correct. To do it by yourself, you need a mirror angled to see it while you sit on the bike. Otherwise 2 people do it. One to sit on bike and level it, the other to view oil window.
