The robber was named Barabbas. He committed murder and sedition in an insurrection. Matthew 27:17:
17Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?20But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.21The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.22Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.23And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
According to the Gospels (cf. Mt 27:15-26; Mk 15:6-15; Lk 23:18-25; Jn 18:38-40), Barab'bas was released instead of Jesus.
The robber released in Jesus place was a man called barabas.
A:At the trial of Jesus, Pontius Pilate is said to have offered to free one of his two prisoners as a gift to the Jews for the Passover. The Jews chose to free Barabbas. Barabbas means 'Son of the Father' in Aramaic, so it has been suggested that this episode was a play on words. The Jews, in releasing Barabbas instead of Jesus, had released the wrongSon of the Father.
Every year one prisoner would be released, but you know that. The prisoner was chosen based on the will of the people, and the people called for Barabbas to be released (Matt. 27:21-22, Mark 15:9-11, John 18:39-40). If you want to know why they wanted Barabbas out instead of Jesus, only they and God know.
In the synoptic gospels, Jesus and his disciples were celebrating the Jewish Passover on the night of his arrest; the Last Supper was their Seder meal. In John's Gospel, Jesus was arrested on the night before the Passover, thus instead of a detailed mention of the Last Supper, we have the account of Jesus washing their feet. The gospel says that Jesus was crucified on the day prior to the Passover, and makes greater use of Passover imagery than do the other gospels.
No, Bararabbas was the one that was to be released after the Passover. It was a traditioon that one be set free after the passover. Pilate offered Jesus as the one to be released after the Passover but the people requested Barrabas. As the passover was not complete, he would have still been in jail. See Luke 23:18
As all good Jews would, Jesus would not have missed Passover.
Jesus was the one who started the passover. The passover was a feast that Jesus wanted to have with his disciples (followers) before his death. That's why it is also called the Last Supper.
All we know is that one robber repented , and the other robber rebuked Jesus.
It is a generally accepted fact that Jesus ate passover supper with his disciples.
Jesus?
Yes that was the custom; on Passover Day one prisoner would have to be released. Pilate wanted Jesus to be free, but the crowd wanted Barabbas free, and he was set free at the cost of Jesus.
Yes he did. The Last Supper was a Passover Seder.
