He became assistant to Father Charles Garnier at the Indian village of Etarita in 649. He was murdered on December 8 by an apostate Indian while returning from a visit to neighboring Ste. Marie. He was canonized in 1930 by Pope Pius XI as one of the martyrs of North America .
