How old is grandpa? 38 or 98? Can he afford anything he wants or does he have to count every penny? Do you have time that you can spend with him or do you have to send something in the mail? What is your budget?
If you have time, perhaps you could put up Christmas lights on his house so he doesn't have to get up on a ladder.
If you have more time, how about a once a month activity with him?
If he can get out, would he like to do something with you? This could be a movie, looking at Christmas lights, watching a game, going to a park or a museum. None of those will collect dust. Try giving a calendar with the dates circled for your "Grandparent Day".
If he's having a hard time making ends me try something very practical. Would he be able to use stamps to pay his bills? Would he like nuts, cookies or bread you've made? A whole dinner you fix and share with him? A goody basket of food that fits the kind of low-salt, low-sugar diet he is supposed to follow? How about a DVD rental that you see together?
Does he like music? You could load an i-pod with tunes you think he'd like to hear as he takes a daily walk. If you have plenty of money, check out what electronic stuff he might like, such as Bose Radios, wii, Guitar Hero.
Does he like to read? Would he like a magazine or newspaper subscription?
The answer of what to get grandpa depends on if he'd rather spend his time golfing, fishing, taking a nap, traveling, or decorating his home. The best thing is something that shows you care, love, and respect him, whether the gift is a trip around the world or the special fudge you made with love.
That should be sorta easy.
If you know your dad well enough.. You should be able to find something.
Write down things that he like's. See what you can buy after that. For example, if your dad like's fishing, you can maybe get him a fishing pole.
That's just a random example!
Or if you cant afford to buy anything, make a home-made card.
You can write all types of thing's like "Happy Birthday" or "I Love You!"
or "Have A Fantastic Birthday" or lots and lots of <3's (Hearts)
Its your dad so it depends. But even if you do make a home-made card, he would like it anyway!!
Your Welcome! :-)
Most people don't like to receive gifts that make them feel old, but they sure appreciate gifts that make their lives a bit easier. One time we got our grandpa an ergonomic chair that's easier on the back and more convenient to get into.
Another time every grandchild got a hat with their initials on it, and grandpa got one too. He still wears that hat today.
Just choose items that make the lives of elderly people easier or items that their grandchildren can be associated with. Then again, it should be practical to some degree.
