Usually when you rent a hall or room in a hotel you have made previous arrangements and the gratuities are included and if not the person you are dealing with should have discussed this. In British Columbia it's 15% for the bar, the waitress/waiter at your table/DJ or band/minister/priest and the limo driver if you have one. Any service you had shoul have a gratuity. If you feel you did not get good service in any sector you are not required to pay the gratuity unless it was included in your contract at the hall or hotel suite.

How do you deal with people who attend your kids wedding and don't bring a gift?

* The best thing to do when someone does not buy a wedding gift for your son or daughter's wedding is to ignore it. Some of these guests may well give a wedding gift later and those that don't then they have no etiquette and just remember that when it's their turn if one of their children gets married. It's not worth the energy to bring it up and is not proper etiquette to do so.

What is the difference between manners and etiquette?

Etiquette: This is a set of rules various parts of the world follow. These 'rules' are little things that tell you what is proper. Ex: You use different types of knifes and forks for different types of food. This shows proper etiquette. It is not bad manners to use your salad knife to cut your fish, you would just not be following the etiquette. Manners: Manners are what you do in a specific way to be polite, courteous, etc. showing proper manners means making the person around you not feel bad. Ex: You say please and thank you show good manners. You are not 'showing etiquette' while doing this. Note: Sometimes showing improper etiquette CAN make you show bad manners. Ex: It is in the etiquette rules to congratulate the bride and groom during the wedding. Not doing this also shows bad manners.
