Well, Twelfth Night is the night of 6th January (Epiphany), which is traditionally the end of Christmastide. The first day of Christmas is Christmas Day, with the first night being that night (after the day). If you count forward you find the Twelfth Day is the 5th of January, with Twelfth Night being the night at the end of that day, being the night before Epiphany. People used to celebrate things a lot on the nights before them, like having Midnight Mass on the night before Christmas Day, or the Easter Vigil on the night before Easter, or Halloween (All Hallow's Eve) on the night before All Saint's Day (All Hallow's Day). The Twelve Days of Christmas are Christmastide, when people used to take a holiday and party for 12 days. It's bad luck to leave your decorations up after Twelfth Night.
The 12 days of Christmas, in fact, are the days from Dec. 25, celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ, to the Epiphany, celebrated on Jan. 6 as the day when the manifestation of Christ's glory was realized.Of course the exact date of Jesus' birth is not known but the 25 December is when we celebrate it :-D
The Night They Saved Christmas was created on 1984-12-23.
The 12 days of Christmas is celebrated with the day of Christmas.
The 12 days of Christmas begin with Christmas Day, Dec 25, and run through Jan 6 . January 6 is 12th night, the day of Epiphany, celebrated as the day the wise men arrived from the East to worship the Christ child.
Christmas decorations should not come down until the twelfth night after Christmas day This is because the Christmas season does not end until January 6th the feast of the Epiphany January 6th is also known as Three kings day because it is the day the three wise men reached Jesus 2 weeks after his birth The proper night for removing your Christmas Tree and decorations is the evening of the 5th of January after dark this is twelfth night the eve of Epiphany To take Christmas Trees down before this date or after this date is considered bad luck by many All this of course depends on weather you follow the true Christmas season or the secular Christmas The secular Christmas lasts one day and has no traditional side to it The more traditional Christmas celebrated by most christians and Catholics begins at sundown on Christmas eve and ends 12 days later on January 6th Its totally up to you what you choose to do but you consider doing it the right way
